New Edinburgh wedding venue
The Old Dr Bells Baths is a unique diy wedding venue in Edinburgh, a former Victorian swimming pool, with a city wedding venue feel. It is pretty tiny but offers a few cool spots for the photos. The venue is hosting many events and gigs, yoga workshops and recently a dachshund pup up cafe ! If you are looking for a quirky wedding venue in Edinburgh with plenty of natural light then The Old Dr Bells Baths is worth to consider.
Dr Bells summer wedding
Alistair & Laura booked me for their wedding in July, there were a few changes on the way but all happened almost as planned. The couple were travelling from Hong Kong where they currently live and work. Both originally from Edinburgh, they were looking for diy wedding venue where they could host their relaxed wedding. Dr Bells sounded like a perfect option.
Laura was getting ready in her friends airbnb in New Town. I took a few great bridal portraits here – interior was amazing! I always keep recommend to my couples to book a nice space for getting ready so we can take some lovely portraits before the ceremony. While Dr Bells is a lovely venue, there are not many opportunities for portraits inside.
DIY weddings are my favourite, I simply love creativity of my couples. There were lots of wild flowers, cake was made by a cousin and table names were made by bride’s brother. You don’t need a huge budget to create an amazing atmosphere.
The Old Dr Bells Baths prices start at £1500 for venue hire for Monday to Thursday weddings. More info on their packages here.

Where to take wedding photos at The Old Dr Bells Baths
Dr Bells Baths might seem like a tricky venue when comes to formal group photos , specifically in the bad weather. However there is enough space at the front to take shots of groups of 10 people and if it’s raining, the interior is pretty great with lots of natural light.
For bride and groom photos we took a short walk to the church grounds near Newkirkgate. The original plan was to have a walk towards the shore however it was too hot to walk anywhere to we decided to stay in the area close tot the venue. The church was decorated with bunting which created nice background for wedding photos.
Parking at the Old Dr Bells Baths is a bit limited but there are plenty of free on street options around the corner, for example Swanfield industrial estate on Bonnington Road.
