Gretna Green Elopement | Maggie + Andrew
Gretna Green elopement
Gretna Green used to be most famous place for Scottish elopements. While it was illegal to get married in England under the age of 21 without parental consent, much younger couples could have a wedding in Scotland. This resulted in many runaway weddings and young couples crossing the border to tie the knot in the Scottish village.
Gretna Green elopement might not be as spectacular as Isle of Skye or Glencoe elopement. But it it still a busy village with thousands weddings every year.
Maggie & Andrew
Maggie & Andrew, like many couples, had to postpone their wedding. Wedding planning was particularly difficult because the bride had to travel from the US to meet her groom in England. Once travel restrictions were lifted, the couple eloped to Gretna Green for an intimate ceremony and we met on the same day in the Scottish Borders for an elopement photoshoot. I didn’t know the area very well but used always reliable Walking Highlands website and my research skills. And here is the result of my discovery, a beautiful walk in the Borders, not far from the Gretna Green.
