Edinburgh Botanic Gardens Wedding Photos
Caterina & Fedor’s wedding at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh
This season I was lucky to work at many outdoor wedding venues , from Spring till Autumn. One of these weddings was Caterina & Fedor’s Edinburgh Botanic Gardens wedding.
I’ve photographed many Autumn weddings at the Gardens before – I really love John Muir Grove for outdoor ceremonies! That day we had extremely strong winds so the ceremony was moved indoors to a little marquee next to the Caledonian Hall. After the ceremony, the wind has calmed down a bit and everyone gathered for drinks reception outside the Caledonian Hall. The couple have booked a micro package for 3 hours of coverage which was enough to cover the ceremony, drinks reception and a few family photos along the couple photoshoot. We explored the gardens which I really appreciated as we found some wildflowers and more secluded spaces hidden from the public. We took the photos on both digital and 35mm film.

Edinburgh Botanic Gardens venue: my top locations for wedding photos
On that day the Gardens were not too busy so we could explore without anyone watching. My couple have took me to some of their favourite spots within the garden, including the giant leaves, can’t remember their name! Usually I take my couples back to John Muir Grove for their photos, and around the rock garden in front of the Caledonian Hall.

Venue: Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
The Caledonian Hall
The Caledonian Hall is the smaller one of the two buildings at the Botanic Gardens wedding venue. Situated at the east side of the Garden, it is a grade B building with a view of the Rock Garden. It is wheelchair accessible and includes a small marquee that can host small wedding ceremonies or drinks reception High ceilings and big windows make it a perfect space for indoor wedding photos. The hall has been refurbished recently – scroll down to see the new look!
The Hall can accommodate 100 guests for a wedding ceremony and meal and further 20 for the evening dancing.

Edinburgh Botanic Gardens wedding: an outdoor wedding in the Autumn.
As much as I love Summer, I must admit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh look even better in late Spring / early Autumn. Blooming trees and exotic plants make an impression ! Plus you still have chances for a good weather for weddings between May and October. No matter the wedding season, the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh is my favourite wedding venue in the city. I am looking forward to visiting back in October this year 🙂
