Planning a proposal in Edinburgh and other ideas
The enchanting city of Edinburgh, with cobblestone streets, Victorian architecture and a volcano in the middle of the city, sounds like a perfect location for a wedding proposal in Scotland. Shermaine and Daryl have traveled from Singapore, and while on the top of the Arthur’s Seat, Daryl had proposed and she said yes! Booking a wedding photographear in Scotland for their engagement session was last-minute decision
We met outside the Edinburgh Castle, which is a great place for some photos but also quite busy. We decided to take a stroll down the Royal Mile to explore my favourite locations for a photoshoot in Edinburgh. It was a very windy day too so I wanted to go to sheltered places like the arches behind the St Giles. The light was a beautiful golden soft and warm one, one of the reasons I like to do photoshoots in the winter so no need to wait for the golden hour.
Edinburgh Christmas
Edinburgh’s Old Town ornamented with festive Christmas decorations added an extra layer of enchantment to the photoshoot. Twinkling lights, wreaths, and holiday atmosphere transformed the streets into a magical wonderland.
We took a few staged proposal photos too, with lots of spectators at the Vennel, just to commemorate the event. These two were very enthusiastic and relaxed when posing for their Edinburgh proposal photos; I wish we could spend another hour exploring the Old Town but they were in a rush to catch their flight!
I am very excited for an upcoming engagement season and looking forward to more winter shoots this year.
Alternative locations for a photoshoot in the winter
Stockbridge – a bit quieter than the Royal Mile, Stockbridge is a lovely idea for a stroll in the winter along the Water of Leith. I usually meet my couples outside the Circus Lane and take a walk towards the Dean Village.
Holyrood Park – not recommended on icy days , otherwise a great place with many opportunities. Especially recommended for a photoshoot with dogs!
