A Relaxed, Elegant Wedding Day at Carberry Tower – A Photographer’s Perspective

Just a short drive from Edinburgh, surrounded by peaceful woodland and rolling countryside, Carberry Tower Mansion House is the kind of place couples fall in love with instantly. As a photographer working all across Scotland, Carberry Tower is one of those venues I’m always excited to return to. It offers history, beautiful light, and a relaxed atmosphere that naturally supports honest, emotive photography.

Mackenzie and Jackson travelled all the way from Alabama in the United States to elope in Scotland. Their original venue unexpectedly went into refurbishment, which meant a last-minute change – not ideal when you’re planning a destination wedding. But in the end, it worked out better than any of us could have imagined. They managed to keep their date and secured Carberry Tower Mansion House, a place that fit them perfectly: intimate, full of character and surrounded by peaceful woodland just outside Edinburgh.

They wanted somewhere quiet, meaningful, and naturally beautiful, and Carberry Tower offered exactly that. Their ceremony was performed by a close friend – someone who understood their story deeply. She and her husband were the only guests, making the day feel even more personal and heartfelt. There were no distractions and no timelines to chase, something I really love about Scottish elopements. We were treated to beautiful weather, so after the ceremony we wandered outdoors for photos – first in the courtyard, then beneath the huge tree that has become one of my favourite portrait spots on the grounds. Below you can see a mix of digital images and 35mm film photographs from their day.

Why couples choose Carberry Tower for their Scotland wedding

One thing I’ve learned as an Edinburgh wedding photographer is that couples want a balance: somewhere that feels special but not overly formal, elegant but still comfortable, and memorable without the pressure of a huge venue. Carberry Tower nails that balance.

Inside, you get wood-panelled rooms, cosy corners for morning prep, and huge windows that make portraits feel soft and natural. Outside, the grounds at Carberry Tower Mansion House are ideal if you want your wedding photos to feel stylish and modern. The courtyard offers a beautiful, structured backdrop, while the big tree nearby has this quiet, almost cinematic atmosphere that works perfectly for more intimate portraits. Carberry Tower naturally creates space for timeless wedding photos.
