Wedding in Gran Canaria
Is there a better place for a winter wedding than wedding in Gran Canaria?
Canary Islands have been always my favourite destination. The sun all year round, amazing food and friendly people. I visit as often as I can. Getting married in Gran Canaria is not complicated, although you can have legal ceremony only if one of the partners is a resident. However you can still have a symbolic wedding, a blessing or vows renewal in Gran Canaria.
Rustic wedding venue in the Canary Islands
It’s been a while since I photographed an elopement in Gran Canaria – a ceremony at Svenska Kyrkan Gran Canaria. This time I got to experience a wedding at a finca near Las Palmas. Fincas are very popular wedding venues -while a lot of couples dream of a sea view during their wedding ceremony I think it is so much better to get married under banana trees than in an open sun!
Ivana & Vladimir, a couple from Montenegro, were already married. Their wedding took place a long time ago, with a simple ceremony at the city hall, so they wanted to renew their wedding vows in more spectacular way.
With a beautifully decorated wedding arch, sweet ceremony at the finca, and a meal after, it was a wedding to remember. Ivana was wearing a bridal dress for the very first time, a fairytale gown from Pronovias Las Palmas. It is such a better idea to get a dress from a local shop rather than drag it trough the airports!
The ceremony was short and emotional, the couple exchanged the rings and their vows in front of the local celebrant. Ivana also used her DJ skills for some tunes.
Finca La Suerte Grande
Located high in Telde, near Las Palmas, the finca is one the newest wedding venues in Gran Canaria. Here the temperatures a bit cooler than on the south of the island which makes it easier to enjoy the day. Plus trees provide lots of shade.
The finca provides an onsite accommodation for 19 people , ideal for a micro wedding or an elopement in Gran Canaria. There is a pool too. Many couples choose resorts and hotels for their destination wedding in the Canary Islands. But fincas are great alternative for a truly Spanish wedding.

Gran Canaria wedding planners and other suppliers
It is certainly not easy to book local suppliers if you don’t speak Spanish, this is why it’s essential to hire a wedding planner for your wedding in Gran Canaria.
The vow renewal was arranged by Neena Davis who has great connections around the island. There are abridal dress shops in Gran Canaria, with a lovely Pronovias Las Palmas on top. I adore their dresses!
Bride was getting ready near Maspalomas where she was staying and travelled for the late afternoon ceremony. The island is not too big so you can easily reach north and south on the same day. As for the couple photoshoot, we didn’t need to travel far as finca had a lot to offer. Bu if you are looking for ideas, the mountains and the dunes are great options for wedding photos in Gran Canaria.
