Best Wedding Venues in Scotland – 2026 update
Where to get married in 2026/2027
I am often asked what are the best wedding venues in Scotland and it is not easy to answer. There are so many beautiful places I’ve had the pleasure of working at as a wedding photographer in Scotland for the past 12 years. Each venue has its own atmosphere, character, and charm. What makes a place “the best” often depends on the couple and the kind of day they want to create. Over the years I’ve photographed weddings in castles, barns, family gardens, and historic buildings, and every one of them has offered something special.
Personally, I’m always drawn to venues that feel unique and full of character. Natural light is something I value a lot when photographing weddings. I love spaces with large windows, bright ceremony rooms, and outdoor areas where couples and guests can relax. Barn-style venues are some of my favourites. Especially those surrounded by pretty gardens and spacious grounds where people can wander, chat, and enjoy the atmosphere throughout the day. These types of venues often create a relaxed and welcoming setting that photographs beautifully.
I also have a real soft spot for more unconventional wedding locations. Tipis and yurts can create a wonderfully laid-back and intimate celebration. Especially when couples personalise the space with their own decorations, lights, and flowers. Village halls can be just as magical when thoughtfully styled, turning a simple community space into something truly personal. And then there are the unforgettable settings – castle weddings full of history and grandeur, romantic ceremonies on canal boats, and of course beautiful library spaces that add timeless elegance to the day.
Venues in Scotland – photographer’s favourites
Central Scotland is incredibly rich in venues like these, offering everything from grand historic buildings to relaxed countryside settings. For couples planning their wedding here, there really is something to suit every style and vision. Below are some of the places I recommend for hosting a wedding in the central belt. They are all wonderful venues that I’ve enjoyed working at and are definitely worth checking out when you’re planning your day. This year I will explore new venues too and looking forward to updating this guide later in the year.
Garden and outdoor wedding venues
Secret Herb Garden
Tucked away at the foot of the beautiful Pentland Hills, The Secret Herb Garden is a wonderfully relaxed and slightly unconventional place to have a wedding. Part garden centre, part plant nursery and café, it has a natural, rustic charm that makes it perfect for couples looking for something a little different from a traditional wedding venue.
The heart of the venue is its atmospheric greenhouse, filled with herbs, plants and soft natural light. It creates an intimate setting that works beautifully for smaller weddings and alternative celebrations. The space feels organic and informal, with long wooden tables, greenery all around and a warm, cosy atmosphere that makes guests feel instantly at home. I really enjoy photographing this Secret Herb Garden wedding in September.

Colstoun House
Set in the beautiful East Lothian countryside, Colstoun House is an absolutely perfect wedding venue for couples looking for a relaxed celebration surrounded by nature. One of the things that makes Colstoun so special is the variety of spaces available for ceremonies. It is allowing couples to choose the setting that best suits their style and the atmosphere they want to create.
A particularly unique feature is the venue’s charming polytunnel, which has become a favourite ceremony spot and makes a wonderfully light and characterful space for saying your vows. I’ve photographed several weddings at Colstoun House and every celebration there has felt warm, personal and beautifully relaxed. It’s a venue that offers plenty of opportunities for natural, storytelling photography. I’m very much looking forward to photographing many more weddings there in the future.

Harvest Moon Weddings
Harvest Moon is a truly special wedding venue on the East Lothian coast. It offers a relaxed and natural setting surrounded by woodland and close to a beautiful sandy beach. Couples can choose where they would like to hold their ceremony, which makes the day feel very personal. The beach ceremonies are particularly magical, with wide open views of the sea and a peaceful atmosphere that feels very different from a traditional venue. On-site accommodation includes beach cabins that can easily accommodate 50 guests.
For couples who prefer a woodland setting, Harvest Moon also offers a lovely forest ceremony space among the trees. The woodland area creates a cosy atmosphere, especially when decorated with flowers, candles or fairy lights. After the ceremony, celebrations usually continue in the Wedding Barn. It’s a wonderful venue for couples who love nature and want a relaxed wedding day.

Country houses in Scotland
Netherbyres House
Netherbyres House is a beautiful Georgian mansion set in the countryside near Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders. Surrounded by rolling fields and peaceful gardens, it offers a wonderfully private and relaxed setting for a wedding celebration. The house has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for couples who want an elegant venue that still feels comfortable and personal rather than overly formal.
Inside, the interiors are full of character and period charm. The rooms feature high ceilings, large sash windows that fill the space with natural light, and beautiful original details that create a timeless backdrop for a wedding day. The drawing rooms and reception spaces feel both grand and cosy at the same time, with soft colours and classic furnishings. It’s a venue that photographs beautifully and provides a stylish yet relaxed setting for couples and their guests to celebrate together.

Rosebery Steading / Rosebery House
Rosebery Steading is a beautiful barn wedding venue set in the countryside just outside Edinburgh. The historic 200-year-old farm steading has been carefully restored and transformed into an atmospheric space for weddings and celebrations. Original stonework, exposed beams and rustic architectural details give the venue plenty of character, while the surrounding countryside provides a peaceful and scenic backdrop for a wedding day. The venue offers several lovely spaces for different parts of the day. Ceremonies often take place in the Hayloft Barn, which creates a warm and intimate setting filled with natural light. Couples can also choose outdoor ceremonies in the courtyard or nearby meadow overlooking Rosebery Pond.
Rosebery House offers a very different but equally special setting for a wedding. This elegant country mansion sits within the beautiful Rosebery Estate in Midlothian and provides a grand yet welcoming atmosphere for smaller celebrations. Surrounded by countryside and gardens, the house feels private and peaceful while still being close to Edinburgh. One of the most unique features of Rosebery House is its private, unconsecrated chapel, which creates a lovely setting for a wedding ceremony. The house itself has refined country-house interiors and intimate entertaining spaces that work beautifully for smaller gatherings.

Carberry Tower
Carberry Tower is a charming wedding venue in East Lothian. It sits in beautiful grounds with lawns, gardens, and woodland. Couples can choose from several spots for their ceremony, including outdoor spaces with lovely views. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for relaxed and personal celebrations. The interiors of Carberry Tower are full of character. Stone walls, wooden beams, and elegant period features give the rooms a timeless feel. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, which works beautifully for photography. The rooms are flexible, allowing couples to plan both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations with ease.
