Castle wedding venues in Scotland

Scotland is a perfect place to get married. Not only you can have your wedding ceremony anywhere you want – at the seaside, on the hill, by the loch or in the forest,  but abundance of castles means there is a wide choice of castle wedding venues in Scotland too. These historic buildings and castle style hotels are easily accessible from Edinburgh or Glasgow. So if you are not into rustic barn venues or relaxed village halls you can consider having a wedding in the Scottish castle.

Castles to get married in Scotland can be found in every country, from the Scottish Borders to Isle of Skye.  Here is a list of my favourites I have visited as a wedding photographer.

Borthwick Castle

Midlothian

great hall at borthwick

15th century fortress situated in Gorebridge just outside the city. It is a stunning wedding venue for an exclusive hire and includes twelve bed chambers for guests staying overnight. The Great Hall, 12m long and 40 feet high, is an amazing space for a wedding meal.  I really like photographing weddings at Borthwick, especially  in the Autumn. You will not find more “authentic” castle than Borthwick.

While St Margaret’s Chapel can only host religious ceremonies, you can have civil, religious or humanist ceremony too in other two rooms. Although very busy, the fortification is a perfect backdrop for wedding photos and ideal location for a destination wedding in Scotland! Castle weddings – Real Stories

  1. Ainslie & Craig’s wedding at the Cluny Castle

Ainslie & Craig live in Dubai and they decided that Cluny Castle will be a perfect location for their wedding. Both their families live in England & Scotland and they had guests from Dubai too. The castle is an exclusive use castle in Aberdeenshire. I have met the couple at previous weddings so it was great to see familiar faces. The grand finale was a Scottish pipe band arriving at the castle in the evening, and they provided spectacular performance.

2.Molly & Byron’s destination wedding at Melville Castle

Molly and Byron live on a boat sailing through the Caribbean. They chose Scotland for their destination wedding which took place at Melville Castle near Edinburgh. All the guests travelled from America. There was a Caribbean feel on the day for sure!

Melanie and Cody have travelled from Utah to the Scottish West Coast. They got married at Culzean Castle, a special location for bride as she has visited many times when she was a child. Culzean is a beautiful castle with an impressive dramatic coastline too which makes it a perfect choice for a real Scottish Castle wedding.
